A little bit about me.

Hey there, I'm Mya. There may be some confusion in the water because my name used to be Mia Bergmann, but because people constantly pronounced Mia like "mee-uhh" and would always get my last name confused, I decided to make it simple for everyone and change my name to Mya Hansen - Hansen being my mom's last name. Now that that is all out in the open, we can get down to the interesting stuff.

I was born and raised by the sea in a little beach town right next to Atlantic City, NJ, and have found that there is nothing that makes me more at peace than being near an ocean. Growing up, music was always playing in my house and my mom was constantly taking me to see any acts that came in the area - the first being The Dead when I was 6 months old. I believe that from that day, music hooked me. It did not matter what type of music was playing - rock, rap, folk, country, pop, or the blues; I loved all of it. The situation has not changed much since then other than I have been lucky enough to experience a LOT more music.

I played my first show when I was 9 years old for the Hansen House Benefit Concert at Harrah's in Atlantic City. My little nine-year-old self never felt more comfortable in front of a thousand people singing a song for them. Since then, I have learned to play guitar, have written close to a hundred songs, have gotten to know and work with amazing and talented people during my visits down to the city of Nashville, Tennessee, and have played hundreds of shows. I believe that my music has evolved significantly throughout the years and will continue to as I grow and change, however, if you were to ask me right this second what my sound is, I would say it is something in between Stevie Nicks and Colbie Caillat.

Through my music, I wish to reach as many people as I can while staying true to myself and my artistry. I do not want people to just listen to my music, but feel emotions - yes! feelings - when they listen to my music. Specifically, I want people to listen and think about personal experiences they connect to.  If I can connect to even just one person I have succeeded.

I am currently studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston to expand my musical knowledge and experience. I have already learned so much and am excited to continue growing. I am so excited to share with you all that encompasses my new world. If you want to stay posted with little updates of what is going on in my big adventure and hear all the tunes I'm writing as I write them, then sign up for my mailing list and follow my social media links so we can stay connected!
